ZENON LLUSCO
The Altiplano, a
region of arid land where only strong plants endure, is place in the
high altitudes of the Andes Mountains, where the Condor, the largest
bird in Bolivia reigns. The Aymaras (pronounced eye mah duhs, the
indigenous people of the Altiplano reside around the Lake Titicaca. The
ancestors of the present-day Aymaras initiated this great culture,
represented by the ancient city of the Aymaras, Tiahuanacu. The Aymara
culture and language is very much alive today despite the efforts of the
Spanish as well as social discrimination attempting to extinguish it.
Zenon Llusco born of
the Aymara culture, in La Paz Bolivia where he acquired his primary and
secondary education as well as the original customs and traditions of
his people including the musical history of the wind, percussion and
string instruments.
Age 10, developed a
special interest in the Charango, studying it in depth.
Age 12, began
performing in civic events with students of various ages.
Age 13, began
constructing his own charango. In the meantime while performing in
cultural and educational events he worked at mastering his techniques
for construction various Charancos such as the Charangon, Ronrocco and
Walaycho.
In 1985, while
playing with the group “Vientos,” the renowned group “Sikuris” began
auditioning artists, Zenon was chosen and began his musical journey
outside his homeland.
